SUMMARY:Mental Health Program Virtual Grand Opening
DESCRIPTION:Although the Mental Health Program at Futures has been open and treating clients for several months now\, we are hosting an official Grand Opening event. Meet key members of the team and receive a general overview of all clinical and medical services. There will be a Q&A session at the end in addition to the Zoom chat being open for questions as well. \nAs we are in the midst of a mental health crisis\, many people need greater access to high-quality care. Very few programs can offer the combination of assessment\, psychiatry\, psychotherapy\, and wellness services that Futures is making available — fewer still at a residential level of care. Our Mental Health Program gives people the time\, breadth of services\, and expert resources needed to address the complexity of mental health issues comprehensively. \nVirtual Grand Opening Via Zoom\nWednesday\, February 10\, 2021\n12 PM EST – 1 PM EST \nThe Mental Health Program at Futures offers high-quality\, compassionate\, and evidence-based residential mental health treatment for anxiety\, depression\, and mood conditions. \nEffectively treating mental health conditions and helping people learn to manage long-term takes high-quality\, evidence-based psychotherapy\, psychiatry\, and case management. Futures employs a team of talented\, licensed care providers\, including specialized medical doctors\, nurses\, psychotherapists\, case managers\, and other professionals. SUMMARY:Virtual Lecture Series: From Expected Joy to Unexpected Suffering: Understanding the Spectrum of Perinatal Mood Disorders
DESCRIPTION:Futures is a proud member of the Florida behavioral healthcare community committed to reducing the stigma surrounding addiction and its treatment. We invite you to join our virtual lecture series via the Zoom platform to network\, learn from innovative practitioners\, and enjoy a morning of knowledge\, inspiration\, and camaraderie. This will be a virtual lecture with Q&A to follow. We will provide a reminder and meeting link to anyone who has registered. \nPresentation Overview\nMotherhood is one of the most powerful experiences and demanding roles of a woman’s life and yet\, mental health professionals rarely receive any formalized training regarding working with women during the perinatal period. This is despite that 1 in 7 women will encounter a perinatal mood disorder and the relatively high risk of maternal death due to suicide within the first year postpartum. Many mental health professionals mistakenly believe perinatal mood disorders should be treated the same as any mood disorder. When in actuality\, perinatal mood disorders can differ in several significant and meaningful ways. This workshop will explore how perinatal mood disorders are unique\, nuanced\, and require a comprehensive understanding to effectively assess\, diagnose\, and treat. During this workshop we will examine the scope of perinatal mood disorders\, examine case examples\, and explore how assessment and treatment differ during the perinatal period than other times in a woman’s life. \n  \nCourse Objectives: \nObjective 1: Explore and differentiate the spectrum of perinatal mood disorders \nObjective 2: Identify screening and assessment for treating pregnant and postpartum women as a ‘special population’\n \nObjective 3: Observe how perinatal mood disorders differ in their presentation than traditional psychological/ psychiatric disorders \nObjective 4: Understand treatment options and planning \nObjective 5: Recognize scope of experience and training requirements to treat this population \n  \nLEARN\, EARN CEU’S\, AND NETWORK AT OUR FREE LECTURE SERIES \nYou will need your license number and type to receive credit for this course. This course is approved for 2 hours through the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC)\, All 50 state licensing boards accept hours approved by the NBCC for LPCs or LMHCs\, National Association For Addiction Professionals (NAADAC)\, All 50 state alcohol and drug certification boards accept NAADAC approved hours with the exception of Illinois and Louisiana (both states allow for professionals to pay a fee and apply NAADAC hours)\, Florida Board of CSW\, MFT\, MHC\, Florida Board of Psychology\, South Carolina Board of Social Work.

SUMMARY:Virtual Lecture Series: Non-Suicidal Self-Injury: The Unspoken International Epidemic That is Costing People Lives
\nPresentation Overview\nThere is a silent epidemic happening in the United States—Non-Suicidal Self-Injury (NSSI)—and it’s costing people their lives. This self-harm includes self-cutting\, self-burning\, self-battery\, and more. Estimates reveal that people in the U.S. have a 30% lifetime risk for engaging in some form of self-injury. But the bodily injuries caused aren’t the only reason for concern. The correlation between NSSI and suicide is more than 60%. And this isn’t limited to adolescent girls\, both males and females across the entire age spectrum suffer from this problem—many times in silence. It’s time to break the silence surrounding self-injury in the U.S. In this virtual lecture series you’ll learn more about this troubling phenomenon including the alarming statistics\, the most common forms of NSSIs\, and the main reasons people self-harm. Let’s help those suffering in silence to find their voice\, put aside their shame\, and heal their bodies and minds from this self-injury crisis. \n  \nWe will discuss and learn about various topics including: \n                      I. Why Does It Matter? \n                      II. Define NSSI \n                                  A. Definition \n                                  B. Myths \n                                  C. Demographics \n                                  D. Types of NSSI \n                      III. Why Do People Self-harm? \n                      IV. Suicide Risk \n                                  A. What Not to Say \n                                  B. Stressing the Correlation of NSSI and SI \n                      V. Final Thoughts\, Q&A \nCourse Objectives: \nObjective 1: Bring awareness to the alarming statistics of how prevalent it is and the strong correlation with suicide. \nObjective 2: Debunk the stereotypes & myths—demographics\, what NSSI is and\, more importantly\, what it isn’t. \nObjective 3: The top 3 out of the 35+ reasons why people self-harm. \nObjective 4: The top 2 worst things that you can say to someone who self-injures that may increase their odds of suicide. \nObjective 5: Understanding that NSSI is more than cutting; addressing the top 5 forms out of 20+ types of NSSI.  This is important because people often do not recognize NSSI for what it is and miss the signs.  As a note\, a large number of my clients injure for 1+ years before it is ever discovered. \n  \nLEARN\, EARN CEU’S\, AND NETWORK AT OUR FREE LECTURE SERIES \nYou will need your license number and type to receive credit for this course. This course is approved for 2 hours through the Florida Board of SW\, MFT\, MHC for social workers\, marriage and family therapists\, and mental health counselors\, the Florida Board of Nursing\, NAADAC (all 50 states accept hours approved by NAADAC for SA counselors)\, and the NBCC (all 50 states accept hours approved by the NBCC for LPC/LMHCs).

SUMMARY:Virtual Lecture Series: “Spirituality in Recovery”
DESCRIPTION:Futures is a proud members of the Florida behavioral healthcare community committed to reducing the stigma surrounding addiction and its treatment. We invite you to join our virtual lecture series via the Zoom platform to network\, learn from innovative practitioners\, and enjoy an afternoon of knowledge\, inspiration\, and camaraderie. This will be a one hour virtual lecture with a Q&A to follow. We will provide a reminder and meeting link to anyone who has registered. \nPresentation Overview\nIncreasing in popularity is the notion that if addiction is isolation than the opposite of addiction is connection. Connection can apply to one’s life in many ways but society predominately thinks of our outward connections with friends\, family members\, colleagues\, and the people who we encounter every day. However\, there is also a strong need to connect inwardly with oneself and our impact to the larger universe and meaning of life. When we discuss Spirituality in Recovery\, we explore this idea of inward connection and how it can help develop the resilience needed to sustain recovery and good mental and physical health. \nWe will discuss and learn about topics involving: \n\n\n1. Identify the difference between religion and spirituality.\n\n\n  \n\n\n2. Explain the effects of substance use disorders on spirituality.\n\n\n  \n\n\n3. Explain the benefits of spirituality in the grieving process.\n\n\n  \n               4. Identify the benefits of a spiritual practice.\nWe will also take this time to explore the spiritual journey and its connection to those grieving from someone lost to an overdose or attachment to an addiction. This epidemic has grown so much so there is no longer 6 degrees of separation between people who have experienced loss to addiction\, or closely knows someone who has been impacted. We will discuss ways to support spiritual connection during the very vulnerable time of grief and how to help one discover the unyielding power we each possess.

SUMMARY:Lecture Series: “Spirituality in Recovery”
DESCRIPTION:Futures is a proud members of the Florida behavioral healthcare community committed to reducing the stigma surrounding addiction and its treatment. We invite you to join our lecture series to network\, learn from innovative practitioners\, and enjoy an afternoon of knowledge\, inspiration\, and camaraderie.

In 1985\, he was elected to the position of District Vice President and later Executive Vice President of the Professional Firefighters Paramedics of Palm Beach County. \nWhile at PBCFR he began to realize that there was a need to assist coworkers in areas of mental health\, substance and alcohol and other wellness-related issues. Teaming up with his then department EAP Coordinator they formed a relationship in the management of these issues. Joel continued successfully to function as both a member advocate role and a behavioral health role achieving multiple credentials in addiction\, peer support\, and behavioral health and in 2018 became the organization’s first behavioral health officer. \n  \n \nAs an award-winning\, internationally-recognized subject matter expert\, Cynthia Goss is a true pioneer in the field of emergency preparedness response. Wholly dedicated to addressing head-on the myriad mental health issues resulting from critical incident crisis response\, Cynthia has spent 20 years of her life educating others. Her work has touched the lives of so many\, from law enforcement groups to the families of major disaster victims. She shares her in-depth comprehension of pertinent global concerns\, adapting her focus as needed to include emerging contemporary issues\, including college and university campus preparedness plans and the ongoing societal reintegration of military personnel.

SUMMARY:Lecture Series: “The Neurological Treatment of Addiction”
DESCRIPTION:The use of experiential therapies as the primary treatment modality in the treatment of addictive use disorders.\nThe latest neuroscience research conceptualizes addiction as a developmental disorder\, rather than a disease. Maladaptive learning is embedded subcortically in implicit memory networks\, which drives individuals to engage in compulsive behaviors as a means of affect regulation and attempts to meet core individual and relational needs. Due to their subcortical nature\, these pathways cannot be altered through cognitive approaches. The inability of traditional top-down approaches (cognition-emotion-body) to address subcortical pathways may contribute to low rates of treatment success. \nResearch related to memory reconsolidation shows these pathways can only be shifted experientially\, which requires a bottom-up approach (body-emotion-cognition). To alter the maladaptive learning driving addiction requires achieving neuroplasticity. Creating neuroplasticity requires a felt-sense in the body and tracking it with focused attention\, which is a primary characteristic of experiential therapies. Presently\, experiential therapies are adjuncts to traditional forms of talk therapy\, which have exhibited little to no impact on achieving neuroplasticity and memory reconsolidation. I argue for the use of experiential therapies as the primary treatment for addictive use disorders due to their ability to alter the neurological pathways contributing to addictive use disorders. \nPost Presentation Recap Materials\n \nDownload Presentation Slides Here

SUMMARY:Addressing Addiction & Fostering Attachment with EFT - CE Training
DESCRIPTION:Futures is proud to sponsor this training in Boca lead by presenter\, Michael Barnett\, MA\, Ed.S\, LPC. Michael is a licensed psychotherapist in Atlanta Georgia with over 30 years of clinical experience. He is an ICEEFT (International Center of Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy) certified supervisor and trainer in Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples (EFT)\, and is the founder and director of the Atlanta Center for Emotionally Focused Therapy. He is also a partner at Pine River Psychotherapy Associates\, a highly respected and visionary private practice in Atlanta. \nPsychotherapy with couples is both multi-layered and complex\, often challenging the most skilled of therapists. In this fast-paced\, technology-driven era that we live in\, where true connection is often at a premium\, substance use has escalated to epidemic proportions. It is not uncommon for couple’s therapists to be confronted with the additional challenge of contending with a pernicious “third-party” that lurks within the shadows of distressed relationships: addiction. Although we have a superb modality\, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)\, to help couples find their way to genuine\, loving communion with one another\, addictions present very significant obstacles to effectively working with couples that seek our services. In this two-day experiential training\, we will explore specific\, and necessary ways to tailor EFT skills and interventions in order to better address the impact that addiction has on the couple therapy process. \nThis interactive workshop will provide a safe environment\, using role-plays\, video clip demonstrations and didactic material for clinical discussion and personal exploration. \nTo register for this event\, please follow the link and scroll down the page to find purchase options: https://www.southfloridaeft.com/resources-for-therapists.html

SUMMARY:2019 APTA CSM
DESCRIPTION:Chronic pain is one of the most common reasons adults seek medical care and affects more Americans than diabetes\, heart disease\, and cancer combined. For decades\, the front-line treatment for pain has been opioids\, resulting in the deadliest drug epidemic in the country’s history. In response\, we have launched our chronic pain program and are furthering our commitment to bridging the gap between addiction and physical therapy by exhibiting at the American Physical Therapy Association’s 2019 Combined Sections Meeting January 23-26 in Washington\, D.C. \nDeja Gilbert\, COO\, and several members of the Futures Recovery Healthcare team will be in attendance and available for media interviews from January 23-24.
